2020-2021 Season

This season we will have two independent sessions in the fall with the hope to have longer sessions in 2021 with a showcase performance in May. With Covid-19 ever changing, we are attempting to offer you with the best options while attempting to limit the number of classes that would need to be missed due to the pandemic. NO REFUNDS OFFERED FOR CANCELLED CLASSES, WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO HAVE MAKE-UP DAYS OR OFFER A CREDIT TOWARD A FUTURE CLASS.

Important information!

The Rock Lake Dance Studio is run by dance instructors Allysun Gillham, Tessa Fitzsimmons and Jess Mlsna.  All are experienced dancers and dance instructors.  Their approach to dance is encouraging and supportive and always with the best interests of the child in mind.  Your child will develop skill in ballet, tap, jazz or hip hop as they progress through the program.  They will also develop poise, balance, flexibility, and self-confidence; but most importantly, a love of dance!

  • ·         Dance is offered Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
  • o   Returning students receive first consideration
  • ·         Please make note that classes are anywhere from 30 – 60 minutes long, pricing is set for class lengths

Ballet Slipper/Tap Shoe Trade:

Donate your old, slightly worn shoes to the dance studio in exchange for another pair, or purchase a pair of shoes for the low cost of $3/pair.  Selections and sizes are limited based on donations.

  • ·         There are no multiple child discounts
  • ·         Classes will be canceled if school is canceled / early release due to weather
  • ·         Make-up classes will be arranged, only if three or more classes are canceled
  • ·         No refunds for classes missed or dropped, except with a medical excuse except COVID-19
  • ·         By enrolling your child in any Rock Lake Activity Center program, you give permission for RLAC to use pictures and/or videos of your child for marketing purposes on the website, fliers or in the newspaper Share your photos with the hashtag #rlacdance

           

Descriptions:

Advanced Ballet/Lyrical-Tessa

This class is for advanced students looking to continue perfecting their technique and fluidity. This class will alternate weeks focusing on Ballet and Lyrical. 3-4 years of dance required.

Ballet/Lyrical -Tessa

We will focus on flexibility, turnout, body positioning, as well as new steps, leaps, and turns as we explore ballet dance.

Beginner Ballet/Tap- Tessa

Get an introduction to tap and ballet with this course.

Hip Hop - Allysun

Learn some great hip hop moves and chorography in this class.

Modern 1-Allysun

Modern is an expressive style of dancing started in the early 20th century as a reaction to classical ballet. In recent years it has included elements not usually associated with dance such as speech and film. It is a dance form that allows the students to learn how to dance, but in a form that is less structured than ballet.

Choreography- Tessa

This class is for older kids wanting to learn choreography and create their own. This class will teach students different choreography and help guide students as they learn to create their own unique movements separately and work together as a class to create. Intermediate-Advanced level experience.

Pre-Ballet -Jess

Students will have fun learning basic steps and fundamental dance skills.  This class will introduce the dancer to the basics of ballet.  Students will learn grace in movement, body posture and placement, balance and flexibility. 

Dress Code

  • ·         Ballet/Lyrical: Pink leather ballet shoes and any color or style of leotard and/or tights, skirts are optional, but should be no longer than thigh length.  Boys should wear any color non-baggy shorts and shirt with black leather ballet shoes. 
  • ·         Tap: Black tap shoes and comfortable, non-restrictive clothing.  Boys should wear any color non-baggy shorts and shirt.
  • ·         Jazz: Black Jazz shoes and Jazz pants and/or leggings with a form fitted shirt.  Boys should wear any color non-baggy shorts.
  • ·         Jazz/Lyrical combined class must have tan jazz shoes.
  • ·          NO BAGGY SHORTS, NO JEANS!

 IF DRESS CODE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE THE STUDENT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THAT DAY’S CLASS.
